On April 29, the first 500,000 m3 high-sulfur compressor independently developed by SOFE was shipped to Puguang gas field for sour natural gas development.
A high-sulfur compressor acts as a superhero in the development of sour natural gas, which can process high-sulfur gas, boost low-pressure sour gas in underground reservoirs as so to make gas storage and transmission more efficient. Additionally, it can also increase the productivity of gas wells, helping to increase production and efficiency in sour gas fields.
Due to the corrosive property of sour gas, in the development of these compressors, special consideration needs to be given to requirements such as corrosion resistance and hermeticity of the materials to ensure that the compressor operates stably and meets production demands. From the structural design, corrosion-resistant materials, welding process, overall test and other dimensions, SOFE is constantly breaking through the key core technologies and is the first in China to master the R&D and manufacturing technology of compressors suitable for operation under the environment of natural gas containing 17.5% hydrogen sulfide, breaking the foreign monopoly.
Since 2021, the first 200,000-cubic-meter high-sulfur natural gas compressor unit developed and launched by SOFE has completed industrial test in Puguang gas field, and has been in operation for more than 11,000 hours, which has provided important equipment support for the development of sour gas field as well as steady and increased production. As an upgraded version with a stronger processing capacity, the 500,000-cubic-meter high-sulfur compressor is capable of processing or compressing 500,000 cubic meters of natural gas.
It is reported that SOFE intends to develop 1.5 million cubic meters of high sulfur gas compressor of high standard, to further promote the building of proud pillar equipments of great power for sour gas fields.
